The Lass Who Knits | Episode 18 | Holidayalong2019

Hello & welcome to Episode 18 of The Lass Who Knits!  This week I have some finished objects to share along with a WIP or three and exciting news about a future KAL/CAL. So let's get straight on to the good stuff!

Holidayalong2019

On October 1 Katrina of Katrina's Creations Crafting Podcast and I are launching a 3 month Knit-a-long and Crochet-a-long to celebrate the start of Fall and to get us in full crafty mode for the holiday season which is just around the corner!  We invite you all to join us as we attempt to knit and crochet around the world in the HolidayAlong2019!

How will we attempt to knit and crochet around the world?

Let’s make the yardage of all that scrummy yarn we’ll be using over the next 3 months count! It’s time to finish those works in progress (WIPs), start on those holiday & gift projects and get the hooks & needles cleared for all those fresh cast on’s for 2020!  As we finish each item we’ll track the yardage and see how far we can travel together around the world.

For some friendly competition we have a Team Crochet and a Team Knit.  No need to choose a team, play in both!

We will be (loosely) following Phileas Fogg’s journey around the world starting in Scotland, UK and finishing in Pennyslvania, USA.  Throughout the 3 months we will plot the progress of Team Crochet & Team Knit to see where each team are on our route around the world.  How far do you think we’ll get?

The first leg of the journey will take us from Scotland to the The Reform Club in London where Phileas Fogg began his journey around the world on Wednesday, 2 October 1872.

We’re so excited about this! Prizes will be drawn and of course, you can double dip in any other CAL/KAL’s!

  • Request to join the Facebook Group: Holidayalong2019
  • Let us know if you’re signing up for Team Crochet or Team Knit by posting a quick hello in the Facebook group (did we say playing in both teams is allowed & encouraged!)
  • Post a picture of your Finished Items as you finish them with a note of the weight of yarn used and the weight of the finished item.
  • WIPs and new projects count but they must be finished by 31 December 2019 - to be considered a WIP there must be some of your chosen craft involved before finishing the item (weaving in ends doesn’t count).
  • The total weight for finished WIPs is accepted.  Example - Let’s say you have a sweater that’s almost complete except for a neckband. Just weigh the sweater once it’s finished and post your photo of your finished item.
  • The Holidayalong2019 runs from 1 October - 31 December.  Join in anytime!
Finished Objects

I'm delighted with how my socks using Easy Knits Gobstoppers in the Peppermint Treat colourway have turned out!  I'm also smitten with my shorty socks which I couldn't wait to cast on after picking up the brilliant self striping Halloween yarn from All Wool That Ends Wool at Perth Festival of Yarn earlier in the month.

Works in Progress
Making the most of the return of my sock kintting mojo I just could not wait until 1 October to cast on my latest pair of socks using the Pumpkim Patch colourway from Mothy and the Squid .  I'd had ideas to use this for my Under Current Knit-a-long starting on 1 October ran by Grianaig Creations, but I'll just have to find something as equally gorgeous as this fine skein of Pumpkin Patch to cake up and cast on with instead.

My Finnish Midwinter Mittens came out of hibernation and these are oh so close to being finished and I can't wait to wear them the Winter!  The pattern is designed by Outi Kater and the yarn is Jamieson & Smith's in shade 27 (grey)  and 1403 (red).

With sweater weather almost upon us I did a little work on my Confetti top designed by Veera Valemaki which only has one sleeve more to go (and a short sleeve at that)!  I'm absolutely loving how the Copper Beach yarn from Ripples Crafts is working so well with The Dark Below from Rusty Ferret and can't wait to get this off the needles and blocked so I can finally wear it.

Until next time, bye bye!
