What is Holiday Along 2019?

On October 1st, Katrina's Creations Crafting Podcast and I launched a 3 month Knit-a-long and Crochet-a-long to celebrate the start of Fall and to get us in full crafty mode for the holiday season which is just around the corner!

Everyone is invited to join us as we attempt to knit and crochet around the world in the HolidayAlong2019!

How will we attempt to knit and crochet around the world?

Let’s make the yardage of all that yarn work hard for us. We’ll be using the yardage we knit and crochet with over the next 3 months count!

It’s time to finish those works in progress (WIPs), start on those holiday & gift projects and get the hooks & needles cleared for all those fresh cast on’s for 2020!  As we finish each item we’ll track the yardage and see how far we can travel together around the world.

For some friendly competition we have two teams.

No need to choose a team, play in both!

We will be (loosely) following Phileas Fogg’s journey around the world starting in Scotland, UK and finishing in Pennyslvania, USA.  Throughout the 3 months we will plot the progress of Team Crochet & Team Knit to see where each team are on our route around the world.  I wonder how far we’ll get?

The first leg of the journey will take us from Scotland to the The Reform Club in London where Phileas Fogg began his journey around the world on Wednesday, 2 October 1872.

We’re so excited about this! Feel free to join in anytime. Prizes will be drawn and of course, you can double dip in any other CAL/KAL’s!

So here's what to do:
  • Request to join the Facebook Group: Holidayalong2019 (This is a closed group.  We'll accept your request, usually within a couple of hours).
  • Let us know if you’re signing up for Team Crochet or Team Knit by posting a quick hello in the Facebook group (did we say playing in both teams is allowed & encouraged!)
  • Post a picture of your Finished Items as you finish them with a note of the weight of yarn used and the weight of the finished item. Or even better, note down the yardage used if you already know this!
  • WIPs and new projects count but they must be finished by 31 December 2019 - to be considered a WIP there must be some of your chosen craft involved before finishing the item (weaving in ends doesn’t count).
  • The total weight for finished WIPs is accepted.  Example - Let’s say you have a sweater that’s almost complete except for a neckband. Just weigh the sweater once it’s finished and post your photo of your finished item.
  • The Holidayalong2019 runs from 1 October - 31 December.  Join in anytime!
